Taking care of your heart is one of the most important health related decisions that you can make.  After all, if your “ticker” goes out on you, it can easily mean the end of the road.  The heart and the brain are two vitally important organs.   Therefore, you should guard, bolster and protect them against damage whenever possible.  Fortunately, many natural heart health food options and supplements serve to do both simultaneously.

Another fish loaded in omega-3 fatty acid is the low calorie “superstar” the sardine.  Sardines are lower on the food chain, and that means they naturally have less impurities.

There is also an excellent vegan and vegetarian option for omega-3 as well.  Walnuts have been found to be high in omega-3, making them a heart healthy food.  However, it is important to remember that while walnuts are very good for you in a variety of differing ways, these great nuts are also packed with calories.  So if you are dieting or watching your weight, be aware that a “few” handful of nuts of any kind might just have more calories than you think.

It is important to note that while you have maybe seen a variety of different processed foods, such as cereal, claiming to have omega-3 added, this doesn’t automatically make the food in question healthy or heart healthy.  There are definitely better choices than processed foods, such as wild Alaskan salmon and walnuts.

Omega-3 fatty acids stand out as a key way to take care of your health, as they not only are all natural, but also come packed in foods that can have exceptional additional health benefits as well.  Taking care of your heart and your brain isn’t as simple as just eating omega-3 fatty acids, but it also involves following a sensible diet and avoiding processed foods and fast foods.
