Get Enough Sleep!  Proper sleep ensures good energy levels and helps in the process of building muscle, which boosts the metabolism.  Most people need from seven to nine hours of sleep each night, but a good rule of thumb is this:  if you feel well rested, then you are getting adequate sleep.

Chill Out!  Anxiety causes an influx of stress hormones, like cortisol, in the body.  Increased cortisol levels are detrimental to the metabolism, causing suppression of thyroid function, imbalances in blood sugar and increased abdominal fat.  Try relaxation techniques like guided imagery, meditation, yoga or tai chi to stay calm and keep the metabolism functioning at optimum levels.

Power up with Plenty of H2O!  Try to consume at least 64 ounces of water each day.  Proper hydration helps to flush toxins from the body and provides energy for exercise and regular daily activity.  For good health, stay away from plastic bottles and drink pure spring or filtered water by the glass, or fill an aluminum bottle!  Symptoms of inadequate hydration are:  dark colored urine, dry mouth, hair or skin, fatigue and headaches.

Eat Smaller Meals More Frequently!  Eating five to seven smaller healthy meals throughout the day helps to regulate blood sugar levels, which creates a more efficient metabolism.  The consumption of frequent small meals encourages the body to use food as energy instead of storing it as fat!

Try a Cup of Green Tea!  Try green tea in place of your morning cup of Joe – it has only 1/3 as much caffeine!  Green tea also contains EGCG, a powerful antioxidant known to boost the heart rate and improve metabolism.
